One of my favorite things about styling is being able to take a step away from my day-to-day wardrobe and step into someone else’s. Costumes are great for exploring creativity and for embracing a character, but when I get to style someone in a “look” I would love for myself, that’s the best. On the top of that look list is boho, short for bohemian. Lacey tops, flowy skirts and rustic accents make up this ode to a simpler time. I was recently asked to dress the band The Mowgli’s for their debut appearance on The Tonight Show this Friday, and I jumped at the opportunity for many reasons. 1-The band’s music is great and catching on really quickly, 2-Their bohemian look is something I’ve always felt a kinship to, and 3-I’ve never been to The Tonight Show before and can’t wait to see all the behind the scenes magic/madness! While researching looks for the band (see inspiration boards below), I immediately thought of Jen’s Pirate Booty (above). This is a line of clothing inspired by world travel and the gypsy spirit. Jen calls her style part gypsy, part bohemian, part pirate and as you can see (above), the result is a whole lot of gorgeous. I had the pleasure of touring her showroom downtown today and let me just say it was hard to leave. Her clothes make me want to lay on a hammock, throw back a cerveza and watch the sunset with my toes in the sand.

How much fun will that be all in one night! The joys of your lovely life that you so kindly share with us, yes including the not so “fun” ones = mommy/wife/human needs a break. Can I just say thank you for your blog an although I do not comment on every single post, I have read nearly every single one. You’re awesome!

What a fun opportunity! I really like the bohemian look.
I really wish I could borrow you for a day — I swear I need a stylist so badly. I struggle putting together outfits for myself… I guess I just don’t know WHAT to wear and what NOT to wear for my figure type.

Latrina, I hear ya! In fact many women hear ya! My obsession with clothes and style has fine tuned my skills for sure, but I still have that feeling sometimes. I also credit getting older with my current ease of dressing. I’ve finally learned what’s going to work and what’s not, before I even try it on. That comes with age, and also from trying many different styles. Which I encourage you to do. It may take a little bravery, but if you don’t try something you’ll never know if you don’t like it. Of course, that’s what I tell my 5-year-old about vegetables, but I think the same applies here-ha!
