On a recent girls trip, one of my besties snapped at me when I called myself a stay-at-home-mom. She said, “Stop saying that-you work! You are a work-at-home-mom.” I looked up and said, “You’re right! I sure do!” Just because I don’t have a nine to five doesn’t mean I’m not working. Even when I am working a freelance job or when I was styling pre-kids, those 18 hour days were nowhere near as hard as one day spent with my kids from morning til night. Weekends with my family are a far cry from my pre-kid life. Those weekends included lots of laughs, lots of drinks (duh), lots of sleep and lots of big brunches (with more drinks duh). Now weekends feel like a marathon-soccer, birthday parties, festivals, and a lot of refereeing with the whole fam together in one spot. Monday is my new weekend, when everyone goes back to school, back to work and I can recover, which means a little tennis and a lot of cleaning up. (Rough life I know) I love spending time with my kids, but I like it best in doses. Sorry, not sorry. I also like it when it’s spontaneous. So next week I am surprising the two of them with a day off and a trip back to the California Science Center for the newest IMAX epic Journey to Space 3D screening we’ve been invited to on Tuesday. I know the kids will be excited, but truthfully I’m just as stoked. The film will talk about exciting past shuttle missions and future missions that once seemed impossible, like landing astronauts on Mars-hello!!!! Plus it’s narrated by Patrick Stewart, love. There is also an exhibition at the museum featuring a model of the International Space Station where the girls will be able to explore where crew members live and work! So 1-we’re playing hooky, 2-we’re learning and 3-it’s something we’re ALL going to love. Basically I’m the best parent ever. But wait, do you want to be the best parent ever too?
